Four children go in search of a street called Thursday in Manchester. It turns out to be nothing but a pile of rubble, a ruined church the only building left standing. But it is here that the fabric of time and place is so weak that they are drawn through it into the strange world of Elidor, a land threatened by the powers of evil.
