Empire of the Sun

After Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 eleven-year-old Jim becomes separated from his parents in in Shanghai and is interned in a Japanese camp for four years. But it is after the dropping of atomic bombs in 1945, when the surrender of the Japanese armies is imminent, that he is in most fear of his life.
