The oaken heart
The oaken heart
The author writes an account of the early years of the Second World War. Her small village and other places are given fictitious names in the interests of national security but they are recognisable as the places she has known and loved since childhood. From it emerges a picture of the British people at war - a little grim but determined and humorous.
