Between the acts
This is Virginia Woolf's last novel, published after her death in 1941. The central event is the village pageant, conceived, written and directed by the energetic Miss La Trobe, and having English history from the middle ages to the present as its subject. The events on stage are interwoven and contrasted with the lives of the villagers in the audience.
