Borrowing and loan periods
If you want to listen to books on your phone or tablet using the Pratsam Reader app, you can borrow the book on Celianet and then listen in the app or borrow the book directly through the app. Talking books can be played on the app without an Internet connection by first downloading the book for offline listening on the Pratsam Reader book list. (We recommend playing the book briefly before downloading it for offline listening.) Pratsam Reader is available for iOS and Android devices.
If you want to listen to books on your computer, select Listen in Celianet as your borrowing method. This will allow you to listen by streaming the talking book in your browser without a separate listening app. You will need an Internet connection to listen in Celianet. To start listening, go to the Loans page on Celianet.
If you want to listen to books on another device, you can download the book as a file and manually transfer it to your preferred device. Please note: Published talking books are always available for loan. Book reservations only need to be made when the book in question is not yet published or when the posted item loan limit has been reached.
Books have a loan period of four weeks (except textbooks, which have a loan period of 18 months). At the end of this period, the books are automatically removed from your loans and the listening app.
The due date is the point at which the loan period of the book in question ends and the book is automatically removed from your loans.
You can choose to extend the loan period of books in your online listening list by renewing the loan on the Loans page on Celianet before the due date. Loans of CDs and braille books cannot be renewed, but the items may be borrowed again immediately after the due date has passed.
You can order a reminder email that will notify you of an approaching due date. You will always be notified when your online listening loans are renewable or when you can borrow new CDs again.
Returning books
Only tactile books and children’s print picture books are returnable. Other items are not returned to Celia.
Borrowed CDs should be disposed of as mixed waste and braille materials as waste paper.
You can remove a loaned item on the Loans page on Celianet when logged in.
You can also remove loaned items from your bookshelf in the Pratsam Reader app. This will only remove the item from Pratsam Reader, not your loans.
If you want to borrow a book again, you will need to remove it from your loans on the Loans page on Celianet first.
Loan limit for online listening
The loan limit for online listening books is 100 books per month for all loan options.
This means customers can borrow 100 books per month using each of the following: the Celianet talking book service, the Pratsam Reader app and downloading as a file.
Loans can be renewed if necessary.
Loan limit for books delivered by post
If you are borrowing books as CDs or in braille, you can borrow a maximum of 14 books per loan period (28 days).
The loan items are automatically removed from the Loans page on Celianet at the end of the loan period.
Loans cannot be renewed, but books may be borrowed again.
The loan limit for tactile books and printed picture books is 2 books per month. Loans can be renewed by notifying Celia
Listening to books in the Pratsam Reader app
Select Celia from the list that appears when you open the app. You will be taken to a login page. Enter your Pratsam Reader app username and password and log in.
If you have forgotten your username or password, you can request new ones to your email address under Forgot Pratsam Reader password? on Celianet.
If you receive a notification saying your bookshelf could not be loaded and you cannot access your books, try logging out of the app and then logging back in again.
Did you download the book from Celianet, but it is not listed in the app’s files? Does the option to open the book in the Pratsam Reader app not appear after you have finished downloading the book file?
What to do:
On Android
The book file must be extracted from the ZIP file before it can be opened in the app. After this, the Pratsam Reader app will recognize the book file and list it in the app’s files.
On iOS (iOS13 operating system)
After downloading the book, open the Files app on your device.
Hold down on the book’s ZIP file until a menu opens. For Voice Over users, the menu can be opened by double clicking the ZIP file.
Tap Share.
Tap Open In. A list of apps will open. Select Open in Pratsam Reader.
The book should now be in your files on the app.
Download the book again for offline listening.
Tip: Stream the book briefly before downloading it for offline listening.
Turn on the Helppo Navigointi (Easy Navigation) option in the app settings.
By default, skipping will take you 30 seconds forward or backward. If you want to change the skip interval, tap where it says “30 sekuntia” (30 seconds). The options are: kaikki tasot (all levels), lause (sentence), sivu (page), 2 minuuttia (2 minutes), 30 sekuntia (30 seconds), 5 sekuntia (5 seconds), taso 1 (level 1) and taso 2 (level 2).
You can log in to the app and use it to listen to books abroad as long as the app itself was downloaded to your phone or tablet in Finland.
Streaming on Celianet is also available abroad.
The app is not available for download abroad.
Listening to books on the Celianet online service
Data is transferred in packets at varying speeds depending on how much load the network is under. Often, the data making up your talking book has to be preloaded into the device memory before it is played to ensure smooth playback without pauses or stuttering, which is called buffering.
You can safely continue.
The Celianet online service is updated with new browser versions four times a year. This notification appears when you are using a new browser version that is not yet recognised by the service.
